Instead of simply handing them over to the veterinary services, two policemen yesterday went out of their way to return a wild duck and its eggs to their home in Salina Bay shortly after they were stolen.

The duck and its nest were reported stolen by an anonymous eyewitness who gave a description of the thief and his car.

The information was relayed to an Administrative Law Enforcement Unit patrol in the vicinity, which came across the car and its driver shortly afterwards.

After taking down the man's particulars, they took custody of the duck and its eggs and returned them to Salina Bay, from where they had been taken.
