A senior police officer said in court yesterday that a man admitted to the police that he had stabbed another man in Paradise Bay in the early hours of June 7.

Police Inspector Therese Sciberras was testifying in the compilation of evidence in the case of a father and his son charged with slightly injuring the son's estranged wife and with the attempted murder of a man she was with at Paradise Bay.

Clint Zahra, 25, and his father Anġlu, 63, of Rabat, are pleading not guilty to the attempted murder of Mark Anthony Casha and slightly injuring the woman. They were remanded in custody on June 8. Inspector Sciberras said that Anġlu Zahra admitted to officers of the mobile squad that it was he who had stabbed Mr Casha in Paradise Bay.

She told the court that Patricia Zahra said she had been beaten by her husband, Clint Zahra, adding that nothing took place when she was with Mr Casha in the car at Paradise Bay.

Defence lawyer Giannella Caruana Curran, whose request for bail was turned down on arraignment on grounds that the victims had not yet testified, filed an application for the request to remain pending until the next sitting when the victims are expected to testify.

Lawyers Charmaine Cherrett and Franco Debono appeared for the victims.
