A police inspector was punched, thrown to the floor and kicked just outside a hall in the law courts this morning by a man who was refused bail.

Luke Bugeja, 27, had been arraigned for violently resisting arrest.

He was first arraigned last week when he admitted to breaking a CCTV camera belonging to Dar Leopoldo home in Ġzira.

Replying to questions by Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera this morning, Mr Bugeja, 27, who is homeless, said he did not want to be represented by a lawyer. When asked if he worked, he said that because of ‘these people’ and "justice" he could not  work.

Mr Bugeja said that he has been going to appogg, Dar Iimpenn, and a home in Sliema, Ossana Pia for help.

The magistrate remanded him in custody.

As  he was led out of court he began shouting and pushed Police Inspector Saviour Baldacchino to the floor and kicked him in the chest.

It took four police inspectors and a further three other policeman to put handcuffs on him. He was heard shouting for help at the top of his voice as he was taken down to the lock up.

And was also heard shouting in the lock-up, his voice echoing through the corridors of the court house.
