The police have arrested two men after finding more than 21,000 ecstasy pills and more that 570 grams of cocaine hidden in a van.

The arrests were made yesterday and announced this afternoon.

The police said officers yesterday intercepted a Maltese-registered Mercedes van upon its arrival on a ferry in Grand Harbour. The ferry had left from Genoa and had stopped in Tunis.

In the van were a 52-year-old from Rabat and a 25-year-old from Sta Venera.

An intensive search of the van by the members of the Police Drug Squad and the Customs Enforcement Unit yielded the pills and the drug hidden behind wooden panels in 10 plastic bags.

Magistrate Giovanni Grixti is holding an inquiry.

Arraignments are expected tomorrow.
