Four police officers are being reprimanded after photos were published online showing women in bikini sunbathing on two rigid-hulled inflatable boats belonging to the force.

A police spokesman told timesofmalta.com yesterday the people on the boat were part of a group of German police in Malta on an “attachment programme”.

But the Home Affairs Minister asked the Police Commissioner for an explanation saying the photos were 'unbefitting' to the force.

A spokeswoman for the minister said today that the requested explanation had been provided and disciplinary action in the form of a reprimand was being taken to deliver a clear message.

Extra care had to be taken “so that what seems to have happened in the last 10 years won’t be repeated”.

Contacted by timesofmalta.com former Minister Carmelo Mifsud Bonnici denied that similar incidents happened under his tenure or in the past 10 years.
