The Police Board is meeting this afternoon to consider how a man was mistakenly accused of a Birkirkara hold-up last Wednesday. The man was released on bail yesterday after somebody else owned up to the crime.

The police said today that following internal investigations it was decided that the case would be considered immediately by the independent Police Board chaired by retired judge Franco Depasquale.

The first meeting was due to be held on Monday but was moved forward to this afternoon. The board will consider how matters unfolded and what action needs to be taken.

The meeting is being held at the Home Affairs Ministry.

The Minister of Home Affairs called for the investigation to be concluded as soon as possible.
