A 32-year-old Pole who lives in Sliema was this afternoon remanded in custody after he pleaded not guilty to slightly injuring two police officers in Paceville.

The officers had been called to restrain him after being thrown out of a club.

Kamel Mnich was also accused of assaulting and violently resisting the police.

The defendant claimed that the officers used excessive force.

The court, presided by Magistrate Doreen Clarke, rejected his request for bail.

Police inspector Elton Taliana prosecuted and lawyer Victor Bugeja was legal aid.
