In the light of all that presently hinders childrens' creativity, solidarity, enthusiasm for voluntary work, and a positive attitude towards sacrifice, poetry is an excellent way to promote a love for all things beautiful, Alfred Massa, Għaqda Poeti Maltin President, said at a recent childrens' poetry contest prize-winning ceremony, at Gużeppi Despott Hall, Floriana.

Massa told parents and teachers that such contests helped to sow the right seed in children who were entrusted to their care to become the men and women of tomorrow. The contest was open for Year 6 primary pupils and the judging panel was formed by Charles Casha, Mary Grace Caruana and Carmel Bianchi.

First prize went to Ulied l-istess Bambin by Francesca Attard; second prize Tfajjel Diżleksik by Shane Borg, and third Il-Paci by Jacqueline Licari.

Honorourable mentions went to Fil-Ġnien by Neil J. Tirchett, L-Ewro Poeżija by Clyde Vella, The Dog by Shanice Spiteri, Ir-Refuġjati f'Malta by Roberto Sammut, Il-Milied by Daniela Zammit, Ġurnata Skola by Kurt Aquilina, and It-Tarbija by Lyon Baldacchino.

The winners were presented with books sponsored by Merlin Ltd, Blata l-Bajda and PEG Ltd, and a diploma.
