PN deputy leader Beppe Fenech Adami this afternoon denied that any member of the PN government had given instructions for action not to be taken over theft of electricity as, he said, had been alleged by Energy Minister Konrad Mizzi.
Addressing a news conference at the party headquarters, Dr Fenech Adami referred to Dr Mizzi's announcement yesterday that Enemalta had found 665 files related to theft of electricity about which no action had been taken.
He said the PN would insist that charges be pressed against Enemalta officials or employees who allegedly hid the the files.
The PN deputy leader said that details about these files were rather sketchy but he asked whether the Energy Minister had sought the advice of former Enemalta officials and spoken to the police. He added that the government was more interested to score political points rather than bring those guilty of criminal offences to justice.
Dr Fenech Adami also hit out against the government's decision not to press charges against the 1000 people who bribed Enemalta employees to tamper their smart meters, which had cost the corporation €30 million.
He also pointed out that the entire Enemalta management structure was retained by the Labour government following the general election. He also asked whether the government was trying to protect those who had committed bribes.
