The Nationalist Party said today that it welcomed official statistics, issued yesterday, which showed that foreign direct investment doubled in the past five years to €12.3 billion, with more than €300 million of the increase coming in the last year of the past legislature.
PN economic affairs spokesman Mario de Marco said such investment was not a coincidence, especially since it came at a time when the world was going through a serious economic and financial crisis which dampened the appetite for investment.
This investment was only thanks to the fact that the Nationalist government had created a favourable investment climate. The investment which the previous government had been able to attract was varied, including manufacturing, financial services, e-gaming, health, information technology, aviation and maritime.
The PN regretted that the new Labour government over the past five months had not revealed any plan, strategy or economic vision to enable the Maltese economy to continue to grow and create jobs.
