The Nationalist Party welcomed Mepa’s approval of the waste treatment plant at Ghallis.

It said in a statement this project, planned in the past years, was to cost around €50 million.

The PN hoped that work would start on the plant shortly so that some €30 million worth of EU funds would be utilised. This plant together with that at Marsascala, would be treating all the country's waste before this was deposited at the engineered landfill.

The party said that the plant invalidated the Labour Party’s criticism that the previous government was building a plant to treat all the country’s waste at Sant’ Antnin.

The Ghallis plant was mentioned the country’s national waste strategy, approved in 2010, the PN said.
