PN leader Simon Busuttil insisted this morning that all Opposition MPs were four-square behind him and the actions he took in Parliament this week.

Asked during a visit to Freshers’ Week at University whether it was true that not all Nationalist MPs had been eager to walk out of Parliament last Tuesday, Dr Busuttil insisted that the PN team was a united one.

Nationalist MPs walked out of the Chamber after the Speaker delivered a ruling finding Dr Busuttil prima facie in breach of privilege when he accused Prime Minister Joseph Muscat of interfering in police investigations involving former EU Commissioner John Dalli.

Dr Busuttil said that a motion presented yesterday to contest the Speaker’s ruling was signed by all Nationalist MPs. He clarified that the motion was not one of no confidence in the Speaker but against his ruling.

Asked if he was going to substantiate his argument regarding the Prime Minister’s interference, Dr Busuttil said that Mr Rizzo said under oath that he had had enough evidence to arraign Mr Dalli and that there had been no interference from the Government of the day.

But following the change in Government, the Police Commissioner was replaced and Mr Dalli was made Government consultant.

On the basis of these facts there was enough to conclude that there had been Government interference, Dr Busuttil said.

He said that Parliament was the home of democracy and the Opposition could not be gagged.

When asked how he could be sure there had been no political interference before the election since an European Arrest Warrant against Mr Dalli could have been issued but it was not, he said Mr Rizzo’s integrity was proven throughout the years and no one from different political camps had ever questioned that.

He called on the Government to stop insulting the people’s intelligence.
