The Nationalist Party has set up a committee to organise events marking the 50th anniversary of Independence.

Party Deputy Leader Beppe Fenech Adami said the theme of the events will be 50 Years of Nationhood.

The party has launched a logo design competition, with the closing date for entries being February 21.

Dr Fenech Adami said independence was a milestone in the history of the country and in the 50 years since, Malta had seen rapid economic, political and social development.

He said the committee would cooperate with the government to ensure that the dates of party and national events did not clash. The committee is headed by Charles Stroud and Bryan Manning.
