Opposition whip David Agius last night wrote to the acting police pommissioner requesting the re-assignment of sergeant major Eugenio Caruana from Parliament because of his behaviour towards the Opposition.

The newly promoted officer drew the Opposition’s ire when he was assigned security duties in Parliament despite "colourful" comments against a Nationalist MP.

He was subsequently warned by the Speaker to perform his duties with total loyalty to the House and all MPs.

The Opposition had asked the Speaker to seek the officer's reassignment but Speaker Anglu Farrugia said he had warned to sergeant major Caruana but felt no need to raise the issue with the Commissioner of Police.

Mr Agius's letter can be read in the pdf link below.
