The Nationalist Party said today that petrol and diesel are being sold at under €1 per litre in five EU countries.
Reacting to criticism of its figures, the party said the countries where pump prices are under €1 are Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and Bulgaria.
This data, it added, showed how the prices charged by the government were among the highest in Europe for both petrol and diesel.
The party said Opposition leader Simon Busuttil was continuing to challenge the prime minister to cut prices immediately.
The party also challenged the GWU to join the calls for cheaper fuel to reflect international prices.
The Prime Minister and Energy Minister Konrad Mizzi said over the past days that fuel prices will go down once hedging agreements expire in the coming months.
The Opposition this morning presented a motion in parliament calling for the prices to come down immediately. It has also called on the Auditor General to investigate hedging agreements since 2013.
