A problem during the past months has been the refusal of the PN opposition to accept that they lost the government, former Prime Minister Alfred Sant said during a visit to the Valletta Labour Party club as part of his campaign for the MEP elections.

He said that despite some mistakes it may have made, the Labour administration clearly merited a vote of confidence by the people for the dynamic approach it injected into national affairs.

"This will need to be carried forward into Malta’s relations with the EU. Many people still fail to understand the important impact which European level decisions have on their lives. In the conduct of Maltese policies to enhance our national interests, the Labour Party needs a strong mandate and deserves to get it," he said.

Dr Sant, who will be contesting the EP Elections in May, said that the Opposition was effectively ignoring the strong mandate that the present government was given by the electorate and was trying to torpedo projects that received the people's approval.

He said the aim of the Opposition clearly was to try to make a comeback in the EP elections of May.
