Petrol and diesel prices have remained static despite oil falling to a record $40 per barrel, the PN said yesterday.

Energy shadow minister Marthese Portelli said the downward trend in oil prices was not reflected in the fuel prices motorists were paying. She called on the government to cut fuel prices, which were among the highest in the EU.

“The government should immediately stop this theft,” Dr Portelli said.

She noted that motorists were paying the fifth highest EU price for diesel but stopped short of quoting Malta’s ranking for petrol prices.
