The Nationalist Party this evening reacted to the findings of an investigation by the Auditor-General on oil procurement practices by Enemalta between 2008 and 2010, saying that as the auditor himself had observed that many of the failings were rectified in 2011.

In a statement issued 25 hours after the report was tabled in Parliament, the PN recalled that after irregularities in oil procurement were revealed, the Nationalist government had acted to ensure that whoever was responsible was taken to court. To this end a presidential pardon had been granted on the advice of the Attorney General and the Police Commissioner.

As the auditor's report showed, the Nationalist government had carried out various revisions of oil procurement policies and procedures. These changes had made a difference, and the auditor had praised Enemalta for the changes made in the last legislature.

The PN noted that as the auditor had observed, the contract awarded to Island Bunker Oils by MOBC had been terminated in the middle of 2011, when Eemalta reviewed its policies.
