Labour leader Joseph Muscat said this morning that the Prime Minister and the PN should shoulder political responsibility for the fact that jobs had not been created at SmartCity.

He said the project was 'oversold' for electoral purposes before the 2008 elections but the 7,000 jobs which were promised had not materialised.

Even if some people found jobs elsewhere, the fact remained that the SmartCity jobs had not been created and this had caused a direct and indirect impact on the economy.

It was not acceptable for the government to claim that the project was delayed because a sewage pumping station was not moved elsewhere on time.

He said a Labour government would be committed to realising this project and Labour's thinking was in line with the investors.

At the same time, he said, Labour would give equal importance to investment by the Maltese and by foreigners.

A Labour government, he added, would also seek IT investment from China, Singapore and India.
