Parliamentary Secretary Clyde Puli said at a PN press conference this afternoon that the fact that Joseph Muscat had admitted to having hidden an alleged drug case at Safi PL club showed how he had thrown responsibility out of the window.

Referring to an interview in yesterday’s The Sunday Times, Mr Puli said it was no excuse to now claim that Dr Muscat was saying, with hindsight, that he should have acted differently.

How could Malta elect as a prime minister a person who took such mistaken decisions when they were needed? Indeed, this was a person who had a history of mistakes, including EU membership and his advice for Malta to follow the Cypriot model of economic management.

Dr Muscat’s decision in the Safi case meant somebody could have lost his life from a drug overdose, Mr Puli said.

Through his subsequent actions, he had also shown that his talk about whistleblowers was hollow because he had ignored the information which the whistleblower had given.

This case, Mr Puli said, had taken place near a school.

How could parents not worry about Dr Muscat’s attitude? What had happened to this drug. Who had consumed it? Did anyone die as a result?

Mr Puli said Dr Muscat was using two weights, two measures regarding his deputy Toni Abela and former deputy leader Anglu Farrugia, who was forced to resign.

Asked whether the former Safi barman was now a PN member, Mr Puli said he did not know, but this was not a case of looking at faces or shooting the messenger. The bottom line was that Joseph MUscat had 'lied'.

Candidate Claudette Buttigieg said this matter was far more serious than Dr Muscat would like people to think. She had spoken to parents whose children were victims of drugs and knew what the children and their parents suffered.
