In a rare joint statement, the Nationalist and Labour parties said an agreement had been reached so that activities organised during the electoral campaign would be carried out in the most orderly fashion as befitted a civil society.

The agreement was reached between Joe Saliba and Jason Micallef, the general secretaries of the two parties, in anticipation of the increased number of party activities and the growth in enthusiasm and mobility of supporters.

Supporters are being urged not to let their enthusiasm lead to any form of incident, the statement said.

The two met in the presence of Police Commissioner John Rizzo and agreed that under no circumstances should uncovered trucks and vans be used to transport people; neither would unlicensed vehicles, which were derelict or scrapped, be used.

It was also agreed that there should not be excessive noise and no music should be played after 10 p.m. in party clubs and other property belonging to them.

The general secretaries appealed to supporters to behave sensibly, prudently, tolerantly and with complete respect to the public.
