The Nationalist Party said today that today's Mepa report about the BWSC power plant further confirmed how the Labour Party had sought to deceive the people before the general election.

Mepa reported that its survey had shown that the new power plant, despite using heavy fuel oil, had not caused an increase in particulate matter in the air. (See separate story)

The party said such a report belied the PL claim that the power station was a 'cancer factory'.

The PN also noted how last week, Energy Minister Konrad Mizzi had, in a reaction to Din l-Art Helwa concerns, declared that there was no danger from the storage of a massive amount of gas on a tanker alongside the power station. That declaration was made even though studies were still being carried out.

This showed how the government was continuing to mislead, even with regard to the building of the new power station, the PN said. The minister through his comments, had compromised the studies which were still under way.

The PN said it was in favour of conversion to the use of gas at the power station, and it backed solutions for lower tariffs, but it insisted that there should be no danger to the public simply to pay a political game.
