PN Leader Simon Busuttil this morning launched Moviment Opportunitajiet Indaqs. He said this entity was created following the amendments in the party's statute to promote equality and tolerance and fight discrimination.

Addressing a news conference at the party headquarters, Dr Busuttil introduced the founding members of the movement, the majority of whom are newcomers to politics. The group will be tasked to draft a statute and then hold an election to elect the officials.

He said that the movement also intends to have gay rights activists among its ranks.

Dr Busuttil said that throughout its history the party had fought to safeguard human rights and freedom but he remarked that in this day and age discrimination was taking a more subtle and complex form.

He said that one of the first moves of the party after going in opposition was the tabling of a private member's bill to entrench a clause in the constitution against sexual discrimination.

He said this movement would also help to improve the representation of women in politics. The movement will have statutory rights and will be represented in the party's structures including the executive committee and the administrative council.

The PN leader said that this movement followed the launch of another new section that caters for for professionals.
