The Nationalist Party has called on the minister of transport to disclose the fare structure of the new bus service.

In a statement, party transport spokesman Toni Bezzina said the announcement on Timestalk yesterday that the government subsidy for the bus service would more than double – to €23 million – confirmed why the people had no confidence in the minister.

This sum meant taxpayers would be paying twice as much as they used to pay the former operator.

The PN said that now that the subsidy had been revealed, it made no sense for the minister to argue that he could not reveal the fare structure because the agreement with the operator had not been signed yet.

It pointed out that under the current structure a day ticket costs €1.50; and 50c for the elderly and children, while a week’s ticket costs €6.60, with €2.30 for the children and the elderly.
