The Nationalist Party expressed solidarity with teachers who were allegedly asked questions about whether they intended to have children during an interview and urged them to fight for justice.

The Education Ministry has launched an investigation into claims by the Malta Union of Teachers of that, in some interviews, female applicants were asked personal questions which are “arguably illegal”.

In a statement, spokeswoman Claudette Buttigieg said that Education Minister Evarist Bartolo was constantly blaming workers for mistakes in his ministry.

But in this instance, he appointed the individuals carrying out the said interviews and that was why the PN was constantly insisting that meritocracy should be used for such appointments.

The PN thanked the Malta Union of Teachers for speaking up and defending its members.

In another statement, the PN’s Equal Opportunities Forum hoped the ministry would follow the case and take disciplinary action.
