The PN parliamentary group will be debating the ongoing controversy regarding the legality of the burqa, Opposition leader Simon Busuttil said yesterday.

Interviewed on Radio Malta during current affairs programme Għandi x’ngħid, Dr Busuttil said that even though he saw no urgency in this matter he would still welcome a debate to clarify the doubts raised recently.

A few weeks ago Equality Minister Helena Dalli announced that the government was looking into an existing law that prevented people from covering their faces in public.

The issue was subsequently raised in Parliament with Opposition MP Clyde Puli calling for a burqa ban.
