The Nationalist Party is calling on the government to amend the Electoral Law so that people who declare that they will be abroad on June 6 - when the EP and local council elections will be held - would be allowed to vote on the Saturday before.

The announcement was made in a letter which PN General Secretary Paul Borg Olivier wrote to the Chief Electoral Commissioner.

The letter was a reaction to an appeal made by the Malta Olympic Committee for Maltese athletes participating in the Small Nations Games to be allowed to vote early, since they will be away.

The PN said that contrary to the impression given by the Labour Party, the commission could not act unless the law was amended.

It hoped that the PL would accept this suggestion.
