Prime Minister and Mrs Gonzi this morning spent time with residents and workers at the Dar tal-Providenza during a tour of the home.

Dr Gonzi spoke on the need to recognise people who worked with the disabled and thanked all helpers and workers at the home for their “unseen” work.

He described the home as a monument to the country’s values saying that if there was something Malta should boast about it was this home.

The Prime Minister noted that a past resident of the home was buying her own house in Mtarfa with help of the Housing Authority. She would be assisted to live alone. He appealed to the public to donate to the home for the benefit of the country.

The home’s director, Fr Martin Micallef, said that the country’s perception towards people with a disability was changing for the better and the home was committed to work with anybody to carry further the progress that had been achieved.

Dr Gonzi pointed out that disability could be overcome through effort and attention.
