Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi will tomorrow be attending the meeting of Nato's Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council (EAPC) in Bucharest. One of the topics on the agenda will be Malta’s application to re-join the Partnership for Peace Programme (PfP).
Dr Gonzi was invited by Nato’s Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer to join 26 leaders of Nato member countries, including US President George Bush, and of the partner countries which form part of the PfP.
Dr Gonzi will signify Malta’s continued adherence to the principles and values enunciated in the Partnership for Peace Framework document. He will highlight the areas in which Malta will cooperate on and participate in through its membership in the Partnership for Peace Framework. The Prime Minister will also reaffirm that Malta’s participation in the Partnership for Peace initiative is fully consistent with the Maltese Constitutional provisions on neutrality, the government said in a statement. During the summit, the Prime Minster will be accompanied by Tonio Borg, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs.
