The Nationalist Party said this evening that the prime minister and the minister of justice had stayed silent after the government was found to have 'lied' about the contract awarded to Henley and Partners to administer the citizenship scheme.
The party said that 24-hours after it was revealed that it was not true that a court had issued a decree saying that the contract should not be published, there had been no word from the government.
The Opposition had requested publication of the contract so that it could be examined by the committee, but Justice Minister Owen Bonnici said that the contract was being contested by one of the bidders in court and the government, as a party in the case, was bound by the decree issued by the court.
The PN said that if the government had nothing to hide, the contract should be published immediately. It should not lie in a bid to win time until the European elections were over.
The PN also asked why the prime minister was protecting Henley and Partners, who stood to gain more than €200 million from this contract.
