The Prime Minister should break his silence and reply to a claim by a former health minister that the 2007 doctors' accord with the government was signed due to "orders from above", despite serious misgivings from the Health Division.

The claim was made to The Times last week by Nationalist MP Louis Deguara, who was health minister when the agreement was signed in November 2007.

The Prime Minister's spokesman did not address the former health minister's comment when asked for a reaction by The Sunday Times. Dr Gonzi also failed to refer to the matter this morning when he dedicated an interview on Radio 101 to the health sector.

The PL said that the Prime Minister's silence was worrying. Who would be shouldering political responsibility for the agreement, it asked.
