Prime Minister Joseph Muscat when questioned on the arraignment of former PL accountant Joseph Sammut, said this evening that he could not comment on every court case, but the government’s actions bore witness of its commitment to fight corruption.

He said that one could speak about corruption, but the government had acted. Over the past two years a minister’s husband had been arraigned, the huge scandal of weak concrete at Mater Dei was revealed, and a number of government property swaps before the general election were under investigation.

The issue of residence permits appeared to have been going on for years and the government had investigated it and was continuing to investigate it, he said.

“We have a system of government which defends no one, and the fact that we arraign whoever may be involved is a certificate that we fight corruption,” he said.
