The Prime Minister this morning expressed 'disappointment' over the Opposition's attitude in Parliament and said that as a consequence, the government would rigorously apply standing orders to ensure an orderly conduct of business in Parliament. He reiterated that the Opposition had backed out of an agreement reached between the two sides, without giving notice.

The government, however, would remain focused on the national priorities, Dr Gonzi said.

The Opposition yesterday forced a vote on amendments to the Mepa Reform Bill even though, according to the government, it had been agreed that the vote would be held in another sitting which still had to be agreed.

The vote was tied 34-34 because a Nationalist MP was abroad on government business. The chairman was forced to cast his vote, against the Opposition amendments.
