Dr Gonzi thanked councillors for their work to improve their localities for the benefit of residents.

He spoke about the increasing responsibilities of councils and initiatives being taken in several fields, including educational, social and cultural.

Councillors, Dr Gonzi said, were changing people’s lives and should continue to do so with their ideas, enthusiasm and energy.

They had given several areas a new lease of life and came up with initiatives which benefitted children, the elderly and the disabled, among others.
