Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi and Finance Minister Tonio Fenech gave details in parliament today on the remuneration of chairmen, board members and chief executives of a number of government authorities and companies.

Answering a question by Chris Agius (PL), Dr Gonzi said the Medicines Authority does not have a board of directors. Its CEO, Dr Patricia Vella Bonanno, receives €32,327.05 a year and has a number of other allowances.

Malta Standards Authority chairman Eng. Francis E. Farrugia receives €9,084.56 annually. Six directors are appointed ex officio and do not receive remuneration. Eight other directors receive €2,795.25 each. The authority's CEO, Eng. Anthony Camilleri, gets €32,130 a year.

Malta Broadcasting Authority chairman Joseph Scicluna has €19,708.83 while its four directors receive €10,512.46 each. CEO Pierre Cassar receives €32,130, has a disturbance allowance of €2,000 and a performance bonus of up to 15 per cent on his basic salary.

Malta Tourism Authority chairman Louis Farrugia receives €16,305.10 a year and deputy chairman Ray Fenech and each of the nine other members of the board €1,211.28 annually, together with €93.17 for every meeting. CEO Josef Formosa Gauci has €76,403 per annum and a performance bonus up to a maximum of €12,579.

Mepa chairman Austin Walker receives €93,689.70 and other allowances, including €27.95 for every meeting he attends. Three members receive €3,494 together with an allowance of €27.95 for every meeting they attend, four receive €3,494 and two get €2,620.54.

LES Management Committee chairperson Maurice Caruana receives a remuneration of €7,000 a year while all other members, including the secretary, receive €2,330 a year.

Answering another question by Mr Agius, Mr Fenech said the Gozo Ferries Board is made up of directors Mr John Busuttil and Mr Vince Mifsud, appointed respectively on October 13, 2008, and June 19, 2010.

Mr Mifsud was appointed to replace Mr Mario Mizzi who resigned on May 24, 2010. Mr Salvu Gauci, another member of the board, resigned on January 31, 2010.

Directors on the board receive an annual remuneration of €4,660.
