Prime Minister Joseph Muscat this evening defended the appointment of Phyllis Muscat as head of Chogm task force saying he was very happy with the progress being achieved.

He was replying to a Parliamentary question by shadow minister Jason Azzopardi, who asked for confirmation that the head of CHOGM 2005 had been career diplomat Salv Stellini and whether his qualifications were comparable to those of the Ms Muscat.

Dr Muscat said it was a fallacy of elitism that such posts should always be filled by men or PN stalwarts. The government was proud to have selected Ms Muscat and very happy with the progress being achieved.

He said that, in 2005, a diplomat had been selected to head the CHOGM effort with a number of other people in different strata.

This time the government went for a person such as Ms Muscat who had the help of several diplomats.
