The sharing, last week, of a video of a couple involved in a sexual act, with the woman easily identifiable, was a form of abuse which society should not tolerate, the prime minister said today.

Speaking this morning, he call for a more caring society, saying that he had been in touch with the woman’s parents.

“They are passing through a bad time,” Dr Muscat said, calling on men, in particular, to condemn the dissemination of the video because this was another form of abuse.

“It is our duty to show this person that she is the victim of the circumstances and must not be made to feel guilty. The person who did wrong was the one who shared the footage. She could be our daughter, our sister, our wife,” Dr Muscat said.

The Prime Minister urged society not to ostracise the young woman.

The private video of the woman engaged in a sexually intimate act was widely shared on social media.

The sharing of the video is a criminal act.

PN sees double standards

In a reaction, the Nationalist Party observed that in May 2014, Cyrus Engerer was found guilty by a criminal court of distributing porn footage, but Dr Muscat still described him as a soldier of steel and gave him a job in Brussels on a salary of €85,000.

Now Dr Muscat was condemning a case which was identical, in a clear case of double standards that showed the prime minister's populism where he said what suited him.
