The prime minister has confirmed that he is being paid €7,000 per year for use of his private car, "in terms of a system introduced by the previous government."

Dr Muscat was replying to a parliamentary question by Claudette Buttigieg (PN).

He said the cars used by the former government were parked in the police garage at Ta' Kandia on the eve of the general election and subsequently assigned to the new ministers.

He opted to continue to use his private car, for which he is being paid €7,000 per year.

A car was rented to the Parliamentary Secretary for Planning at €59 every day.
