Prime Minister Joseph Muscat this evening urged those who voted Labour in the last general election because of the pledge to reduce utility rates to give the government their vote of confidence.

He made no reference to the news that broke out this afternoon involving Labour's MEP candidate Cyrus Engerer who was given a suspended jail term for circulating porn involving his ex-boyfriend.

Speaking in Xewkija, Dr Muscat spoke at length about the government's achievements in the first year of the new administration, including the promise to create jobs in Gozo for the Gozitans.

"We pledged to create employment in Gozo and we delivered on this. We created over 300 jobs on this island in the first year while 400 people started working as self-employed," he told the crowd.

On the other hand, the last Nationalist administration brought a company to invest in Gozo but it failed to pay its workers.

He said that in the first year, the government has delivered on more than a third of its electoral pledges. These included cheaper utility rates, cheaper petrol, stability in diesel, cheaper uniforms, top-ups for minimum wage earners and lower income tax. These, he said, would all leave more money in people's pockets.

"When you see all this work carried out in the first year, how can Gozitans worry that we won't deliver on other pledges like the cruise liner terminal and the yacht marina?" he asked.

"Every day that passes, the message is getting across and those who were not going to vote are now going. Your vote is not enough because you need to convince more people to vote Labour," he said.
