German toy-maker Playmobil is to invest €6 million over the coming 12 months, Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi was told today during a tour of the company's large Hal Far factory . The company enjoyed a 5% increase in its exports over the past year and raised its workforce by 20 to almost 800.

The tour formed part of campaigning ahead of the European Parliament elections. Dr Gonzi was accompanied by PN candidates Alan Deidun, Roberta Metsola Tedesco Triccas and Marthese Portelli. They were shown around by CEO Helga Ellul.

Ms Ellul said the company had adapted itself to changing times and increased competition, and production continued round the clock, seven days a week.

Dr Gonzi congratulated the company and praised it for its training collaboration with MCAST. The training of human resources was Malta's answer to the international economic crisis, Dr Gonzi said.
