Two Zurrieq players, Josef Briffa, 22 and Jeffrey Camilleri, 24, today pleaded not guilty to attempting to bribe Sta Lucia players Brian Chetcuti and Melvyn Agius.

They were accused in court with having offered to pay the rival team's players €1,000 on May 24. The game was a promotion decider. It was eventually won by Zurrieq on penalties.

The bribery attempt failed and the Zurrieq players were reported.

The accused were granted bail against a deposit of €500 and a personal guarantee of €3,000.
