Former French captain Michel Platini said France must quickly forget their shocking World Cup campaign and move on.
"We must now work on reconstruction, say thanks, bravo, goodbye and see you," the former Juve midfielder said after France ended their reign as world champions.
Jean-Pierre Papin, who played for France in the 1986 World Cup finals, was less philosophical, however.
"The sky has fallen over me. I cannot understand that with the best strikers in three different leagues, we failed to score," he said.
David Trezeguet, Thierry Henry and Djibril Cisse were the leading marksmen in Italy, England and France last season.
