The Labour Party has welcomed the sports project announced for the White Rocks complex saying it was all for new, productive and environmentally sustainable investment.

In a statement, PL spokesmen Marie Louise Coleiro Preca, Evarist Bartolo and Chris Agius said the new project appeared to have an element of sports facilities, which the country needed, and hoped there would be active consultation with sports organisations.

While recalling that a prime property site in Malta had been left abandoned for the past 15 years - in spite of another three project promises - the PL said there were a number of points which needed clarification.

Therefore, the Labour spokesmen have invited the Prime Minister to make a statement and answer questions about the responsible consortium and the project in Parliament tomorrow.

They said the PL believed in major public projects, especially on public land, but the process had to be transparent, open and competitive.

They augured that the sports element would not be relegated to a secondary role at the expense of a speculative project centred on the construction of more property.

The proposed €200 million White Rocks sports village, announced last Wednesday, will include 300 residential units.
