The Labour Party has welcomed the agreement reached during an intergovernmental conference in Brussels for 12 countries including Malta to have a bigger representation in the European Parliament, in line with the Lisbon Treaty.
As a result, Malta will be gaining its sixth seat in Parliament, which will be taken by the PL’s Joseph Cuschieri.
Mr Cuschieri will initially be assuming an observer status until the agreement is ratified by all 27 EU members, when he will be officially appointed Malta’s sixth MEP.
Mr Cuschieri’s appointment, the PL said, will continue to strengthen the party’s position in the EP, where it will continue working in Malta’s best interests.
