The Labour Party has short listed three designs for its new emblem and is inviting members to vote for their preference.

Party CEO James Piscopo said voting will be through SMS and non-members can also take part, but their SMS will cost them €7 and will include a membership fee.

He said the party had received 206 submissions in a contest it launched in May.

The winner will be announced on October 30 as part of the Labour Party's 90th anniversary celebrations.

This will be the fourth Labour Party emblem.

Mr Piscopo said all three short-listed submissions were chosen because they were modern but would remain relevant along the years. The torch, which was a requirement of the design, features prominently along with the white and red of the Maltese flag

The short listing was made by a party-appointed panel of experts. The short listed designs are under nom-de-plumes and only indicated by the letters A, B and C.

Members can vote for the design on 50616119 submitting their ID card number and the letter assigned to their favourite design. The SMS will cost €1.16.

Non-members vote on 50618913 also submitting their ID card and the letter of their chosen design.

Voting remains open till October 10.

The winning design will earn its producer €1,000.
