The Labour Party is insisting it should be consulted about changes within the Office of the Ombudsman to ensure there was the necessary scrutiny on the Malta Environment and Planning Authority now that the government’s manoeuvres behind the people’s back were in the open.

Spokesman Roderick Galdes said in a statement this morning the party was concerned at the strange way Joe Falzon’s post as Mepa auditor was terminated.

While the government kept everything under wrap for the past year and a half, action now seemed to be taken quickly so much so that Mr Falzon was not notified that his post was being removed and he had to learn about this from the Ombudsman.

All this would create problems for the necessary transition to take place seamlessly, Mr Galdes said.
