The Labour Party this afternoon hit out at the government over last Monday's increase in fuel prices.

It said this had only come about because the government ignored advice by the International Monetary Fund for the forward buying of supplies.

The government had adopted that advice for oil purchases for the power station, but not for the purchase of fuels used by vehicles and industry, the party said.

As a result of the government's inaction, it would be the people and the economy which would carry the burden, the PL said.
