Around 80 women caught up in prostitution have knocked on the doors of the Dar Hosea walk-in centre, which has been offering them the bare necessities since it was set up three years ago. Twelve managed to get out of the vicious circle they were trapped in, although that is not the centre’s  objective.

Dar Hosea welcomes and treats with respect and unconditional kindness these women, mostly victims of gender-based violence and abuse from childhood.

Their horrific stories are told in the March issue of Pink, out with The Sunday Times of Malta tomorrow, and the article also focuses on the possibility of changing the law to place criminal responsibility on the client and pimp instead of the woman.

Delving into the idea that the client – the person creating the demand – should be punished and fined on the spot, in accordance with what is known as the Nordic Model, Pink shifts the focus to look into what type of a man pays for sex and why.

Clients are, after all, contributing to the exploitation by creating a demand for prostitution.

Tomorrow’s issue also includes Ira Losco’s first full-blown interview since she took a ‘break’ from the music scene after the birth of her son eight months ago.

Speaking during the creation of her latest video for We Are the Soldiers, she talks about how and why she chose to share her stage with four real-life soldiers who have faced their own physical struggles and managed to move on.

“My pitch to all the protagonists was based on the video not being a pity party,” she says.

Having a baby, she tells Pink, has taught her to appreciate everything more, including her art and those closest to her.

From the music scene to fashion, which are always interlinked, Malta’s leading women’s magazine analyses the trends of the catwalks and the streets of the style capitals, as well as showcasing the key look of the upcoming season, with its frills and flounces.

And fashion fuses back into music with a feature on how a pianist and mother design duo create the daughter’s concert clothing, down to the slightest detail.

Pink is a monthly magazine, covering health and fitness, history and horoscopes, humour, cars and more, produced and published by Allied Newspapers Ltd and printed by Progress Press.
