Two Bulgarian women were jailed for seven months today after they admitted pick-pocketing in various localities over the past week.

They were accused of stealing a total of €2,680 in seven cases in Malta and Gozo.

Police Inspector James Grech said the two women, Elena Nikolova, 33 and Yordanka Vasileva, 25, had clearly come to Malta to commit crime. They carried no luggage and had no place to stay.

He said the police last week received 30 reports of pick-pocketing in Valletta alone and had solved 18 cases.

Another two Bulgarians were jailed for five months last week, also for pick-pocketing.
