Alberta Photovoltaic Consortium has been selected to install photovoltaic panels on about 67,000 square metres of roofs on public buildings, generating 6.5 MWh of electricity a year.

Addressing a news conference this afternoon, Resources Minister George Pullicino said this was the equivalent of nine football grounds.

There was to-date in Malta the equivalent of 15 football grounds of photovoltaic panels.

The Alberta consortium will be installing the panels at:

Centre for development research and training

Sta Margerita College, Cospicua

Slaughterhouse - Marsa

St Benedict College Sta Lucija

The minister also said that Irena, the international agency for renewable energy, is between tomorrow and Friday launching in Malta a global summit on Renewables and Islands.

The conference will be attended by 55 island representatives, including politicians and investors, as well as representatives of the World Bank.
